When gender studies are applied to cinema, they provide ways of understanding social phenomena from a critical perspective and an aesthetic experience. All audiovisual production is provided directly or indirectly with an ideological discourse. The seventh art contributes to debate, either directly or indirectly, about power relations, sexuality, class, ethnicity and gender roles.
The idea of holding an Exhibition of this nature arises from the need to disseminate the theories and proposals of gender studies through a cultural apparatus that, through the creation, reiteration and rethinking of social conventions, affects the construction of the collective imagination. In this way, the topics of gender studies can transcend the merely academic level and have an influence that allows social transformation.
